Studio production with the KM-H mixer
Manchester Metropolitan University recently purchased three GY-HD251 studio cameras and a KM-H2500 digital
production switcher for students in their Department of Engineering and Technology. Stephen Sigurnjak, a lecturer in the department, explains how the new studio benefits his
students.
Manchester
Metropolitan University were particularly interested in system integration, with a clear signal path from camera/CCU/vision mixer and out to tape or live HD capture workstation.
From there, media stored on a dedicated SAN allows access to multiple streams for post production editing.
“The JVC camera and vision mixer system, supplied by Quadrant, offered an HD studio solution with remote CCU control at an affordable price,” Stephen states. “The system allows
great flexibility, since the cameras can also be used as ENG camcorders. As the KM-H2500 features both HD and SD vision mixing, it allows us to stream SD video directly to the
internet. The mixer has all the inputs we need.
“The studio gets used for a wide variety of projects, including shooting multicamera interviews, or working with the Reflec Media chromatte LiteRing on the camera for chroma keying
their live studio projects. The students can also book the studio for their own projects outside of teaching, so they have a great opportunity to gain experience using a professional
camera. The equipment is already being used on many final year projects, and has met the needs of bot staff and students alike."
